Drive-By Truckers Live from Austin, TX (2-LP Vinyl)

Recorded for Austin City Limits during the peak Isbell-Hood-Cooley guitar army era, Live from Austin TX captures Drive-By Truckers at their most powerful. The PBS series has documented American roots music for over four decades, and DBT’s appearance ranks among the show’s most intense hours. This double vinyl release preserves the full broadcast set, including songs from Southern Rock Opera, Decoration Day, and The Dirty South performed with the precision of a band who’d been touring those songs relentlessly.

The Austin City Limits stage suits DBT perfectlythe show’s emphasis on letting artists stretch out aligns with a band whose songs often unfold into extended guitar workouts and Hood’s storytelling digressions. The three-guitar attack of Isbell, Hood, and Cooley achieves the wall of sound that made their live shows legendary, while the ACL recording captures dynamics that bootlegs miss. You can hear the room responding to songs about Ronnie Van Zant, Sam Phillips, and the complicated legacy of growing up Southern.

For fans who only know DBT from studio albums, Live from Austin TX reveals why their reputation was built on the road. For those who’ve seen them countless times, this release captures a specific moment when everything clicked.
