David Gedge says: Sometimes I like to set myself little goals. When we embarked on the 24 Songs project it was an interesting challenge, attempting to replicate the Hit Parades twelve singles in a year scheme from thirty years before. So I just thought Id do it again!
As I said in the sleeve notes for the 40 compilation album, the songs we recorded for Maxi were written relatively quickly because I had felt particularly inspired, both lyrically with situations occurring in my life and musically writing with the then recently arrived Wedding Present guitarist Rachael Wood. The resulting tracks feel bigger and moodier than weve had for a while, and theyre certainly rockier, thanks to Rachael with her armoury of guitars and pedals!
