Released at the tail end of the ’70s, Damn The Torpedoes arrived partly through sheer stubbornness. Petty famously fought his label in bankruptcy court rather than be sold to a new company without his consent, and that defiance runs through every track here. The Heartbreakers, with Mike Campbell’s guitar work and Benmont Tench’s keyboards locked in tight, sound like a band that had something to prove.
Damn The Torpedoes is the RIAA triple platinum-certified third album by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. It was released to critical acclaim in 1979, and was a breakthrough for the band reaching #2 on the Billboard album chart where it stayed for 7 weeks. Featuring the singles Don’t Do Me Like That, Refugee, and Here Comes My Girl. Pressed on 180G vinyl.
